Wise Investments

Nice to get back to the online stuff for the news and the 'New York Times' informs me that the United States has pleged Georgia $US 1 billion to "repair Georgia"1 and that is just about what Manchester City's new owners are going to spend on their new acquisition to achieve hegemony in English and European football. Well, I know what the biggest waste of money is and we all seem to have forgotten that a certain , Mikheil Saakashvili, at least facilitated the Russians invasion of his country with his own stupidity in the first place. The democratically elected President of Georgia, who just a few months was beating up peaceful demonstrators,2 has Dick Cheney down there supporting him. However, first off for Dick, is a meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan with executives from BP and Chevron just a day after Mr Putin, the now PM of Russia, announced the building of a new natural gas pipeline from Central Asia to Russia. The way this charade is sold in the western media would make it a bigger joke than the goings on at the City of Manchester Stadium, if it were not for the fact that it is also a trifle more dangerous than the prospect of a waif like little Robinho running into John Terry in the not too distant future.
