Is Change Possible?

If there is going to be any real change in the United States, then it is probably important that the grassroots movement that swept Obama into power is keeping a watchful eye on what he is doing and that there are people who are ready to apply pressure when he renagades on his promise of "change". Should that happen then it might just be that Obama, who is a much more intelligent man than his predecessor, might, indeed, be able to instigate some real change. Nevertheless, the evidence would already seem to suggest that he is going the same way as a certain Tony Blair went and do you all remember that heady night in 1997 when we thought we were saying goodbye to "Thatcherism"?
Barack might publically thank his supporters for donating their ten, and five, and hundred, dollars but private thanks is reserved for Warren Buffett(1) and corporate America, that is for the boys who spent the big money and who got him where he is. Now it is payback time and if his nominating "Rahmbo" Emmanuel as his Chief of Staff was some indication of where his foreign policy is going, then all three of the "candidates for the Treasury Secretary post, Lawrence "Larry" Summers, Tim Geithner and Sheila Bair really are indicative of business as usual. Now, while it would be extremely "Weltfremd" to expect any of those people to be remotely left wing in their economic policies, it would have been nice to have been presented with a name that might have been, at least, acceptable to the left of Obama's own party.
We might still get it wrong but if we are to, then it is important that the grassroots that voted for Obama put pressure on him. Who knows, if this is were to happen, we might just have a reincarnation of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Hopefully, without the World War though!
