Decent Journalism

In 2006 I was particularly impressed by how the 'Independent' reported Israel's indiscriminate bombing of the Lebanon and similarly it would appear that it is that newspaper again that is holding up a beacon for the rest of the mainstream press to follow. This is extremely important because there are two wars going on and in both of them the balance is very much against the real victims.
On the ground in Gaza, 'Hamas' admits to one hundred and eighty of its members being killed in the Israeli strikes but goes on to say that the rest, at the point of writing about one hundred and thirty, are men, women and children who have nothing to do with the fighting.(1) There are two things to bear in mind here, firstly, 'Hamas' "needs" its martyrs but the fathers and mothers who have lost a daughter or son need their children and secondly, the Israeli kill rate in this so-called war, which, at present, is about 300-1 only reinforces the fact that if this is a war, it is at best reminiscent the type of conflict that the white man pursued in their scramble for Africa or that pursued by Hitler and his hoardes when it was all easy street attacking Polish calvary outside Krakow, while dropping bombs on Warsaw.
There is also that other war and that is the war to bring the real war home to all and sundry and these are some of the facts; 'Hamas' was willing to offer Israel an extension of the ceasefire that was in force if Israel stopped the blockade of Gaza, Ehud Barak is once again an Israeli political heavyweight with the february elections on the horizon and within 48 hours three hundred Palestinian men, women and children are massacred supposedly because of Israeli security needs, three hundred men, women and children but then in the last eight years Hamas's home-made rockets have killed 20 Israelis. These are the facts
As one aid worker has reported from Gaza, "People in Gaza are used to dealing with hardship, but this time the bombings are absolutely terrifying, and what makes this attack worse is that for the past 18 months we have been living with little electricity, water and food. For the children it is like living in hell."(2) The man is not a liar, unlike the Zionists Barak, Livni and Olmert, unlike Netanyahu, the man is not a liar. These are facts he is reporting and Israel is "fighting" a war against unarmed civilians. However, if it is to be a war that they cannot be allowed to win, then that defeat has to take place in the media, a media that is largely subservient to, if not controlled by, the Zionists. It is with that in mind that I would like to voice my small thank you to the 'Independent' for dispensing with the drivel and giving us the facts.
