Yes, journalists really do have to re-earn the right to call themselves "journalists" and this time it is not disgraceful tripe of the sort ushered by Mr Bill "living in denial" O'Reilly, that has attracted my attention, but rather a superficially "serious" article, "written", "composed" or, indeed, botched together by not one, but two mediocrities. Amos Harel's and Avi Issacharoff's joint article in today's 'Haaretz' picks up on my theme from yesterday, as the two "journalists" knock their heads together and develop the "Syria has been delivering weapons to the Hezbollah", story, which is meant to be, unlike Bill O'Reilly's "shut up, shut up", serious journalism.
Anyway, back to Amos and Avi and the remarkable joint "journalistic" effort, which they shove under the headline "Syria feeling the heat after 'Scud deal' exposed. "Exposed" but there is nothing added to yesterday's unsubstantiated claims, no new evidence, "nada de nada", "S.F.A." "nichts gar nichts", therefore, where is the development mentioned in the first paragraph? Well, Amos and Avi do add that the "United States Senator Dianne Feinstein from
California, a Democrat who serves as head of the Senate Intelligence
Committee, has a clearer view of the issue. Feinstein told AFP on
Tuesday "I believe there is a likelihood there are Scuds that Hezbollah
has in Lebanon," she said." Well, if Dianne Feinstein said it and a little bit of googling reveals Dianne as one of the Zionist state's biggest fans.
The development is not in the actual "news" of Syria supplying the Hezbollah with missiles. However, while it is not "in the news", there is a development in the story "behind the news". Yes, while we would do well to continue being skeptical vis-á-vis the content, what is interesting, is how today it is reported that there is to be a meeting between the Syrian President Bashar Assad and Egyptian President
Hosni Mubarak and our two "journalists", Harel and Issacharoff, continue: "At this meeting, "Assad will hear Egyptian fears about the
danger Damascus is bringing upon the region by bringing Scud missiles
into Lebanon." The ploy develops and the sting takes shape; this is not about Syria supplying the Hezbollah with weapons to defend themselves and what we have is a subterfuge that would have us believe that "Uncle Sam's" other friends, especially Saudi and Egypt, also have reason to be worried. Indeed, worried enough that when Israel's next unprovoked, "based on lies and hearsay" incursion into the Lebanon comes or indeed, when Washington or Jerusalem decide to attack Iran, it will be for the benefit of the region as a whole. Dropping bombs to preserve the peace and with the moronic dangerous drivel spouted out by our two "journalists" actually facilitating that happening we might want to quote that other disgrace to journalism, Mr Bill "big mouth" O'Reilly. and in doing so tell Harel and Issacaroff, to "shut up, shut up".
