The Holiday Yichang Day Two
We spent this afternoon in Yichang, a city of just over a million people and what was noticable was the complete absence of foreigners; that is, of course, except for ourselves. There also appears to be no starbucks or costa coffee in Yichang. However, that doesn't stop the town from imparting a feeling of, "we are doing alright". The majority of the people are, if not well heeled, reasonably well dressed and well-fed, McDonald's and KFC are choc-a-bloc, there are a few modern shopping centres, a big park in the town centre and a variety of modern housing complexes with more being built all over the place. There appears to be a certain quality of life here and you notice that China's development and economic growth is not confined to the Pearl and Yangzte river deltas. Moreover, while there might as of yet be no starbucks or costa coffee in Yichang, we still managed to find a nice little cafe that served nice lavazza coffee.
