Buddah's Back

Interesting little article in today"s 'Times". In Nepal 10,000 have traipsed along to see a reincarnation of the Lord Buddah.(1) The lad, who is just 17, was certainly viewed as being the bees-knees, the real mccoy, by the tens of thousands who flocked to see him in 2005 as he sat in a sort of lotus pose for some ten months amid the roots of a tree. Do I detect some of you saying that's "easy-peasy", a "dawdle", "no problem"? Well, I will have you know he didn't have any food or water during that time or that at least is what his disciples are claiming. However, the 'Times' also reports that, "a French journalist filmed him nibbling on a piece of fruit while supposedly midway through his mammoth fast. Another correspondent found him asleep while he was supposed to be meditating in private."(2)
Of course, he is no more a reincarnation of Siddhartha Gautama than I am and, while there might, indeed, be more things between heaven and earth than were ever dreamt of in my philosophy, it still never fails to amaze me that a sizable chunk of mankind believes poppy-cock like this.

The photo above shows the "Buddah Boy" blessing a monk. Looks a wee bit like a rock star, doesn't he?
