More American Hypocrisy

The mainstream press is, at times, so ridiculous that you are almost forced to laugh. In today's 'New York' times there is an article headed, 'Militias in Congo tied to government and Rwanda', which goes on to say, " A report to the United Nations Security Council by a panel of independent experts found evidence of links between senior officials of the Congolese and Rwandan governments and the armed groups fighting in eastern Congo."(1) Right, and another panel of independent experts found evidence of links between the United States and Israel and yet another panel of independent experts found evidence of links between between attacks on NATO troops in Afghanistan and the fact that the country is being occupied by a foreign force. One wonders how much these "experts" get paid and if there is a job going. Of course, the sad thing is that for the relatively educated readership of the 'New York Times', and other mainstream papers, this is news and it would come as no surprise that the report can be further packaged as a little regional proxy war, which is what Washington wants people to believe.
The USA is preventing any EU/British intervention in the area and any confrontation between the United Nations peace force, MONUC, and their man in Africa, Laurent Nkunda and while, superficially, it would seem that we have a regional war being fought out between the Tutsi Nkunda, supported by his mentor in Rwanda, the American trained, Tutsi President Paul Kagame on the one hand and Joseph Kabila's government in Kinshasa on the other hand, the real underlying cause of this conflict is the mineral wealth of the region. However, although China, in signing a $9 billion dollar deal with Kabila has made its intentions clear, "Uncle Sam", with its USAID version of American intervention in Africa, tries to fool the world as to its real intentions while covertly supporting and protecting the killer Nkunda.
My grandfather once told me that the reason the British had an empire on which the sun never set was that they couldn't be trusted in the dark. Indeed, they couldn't and can't be trusted full stop. That this holds true for their imperial successor is all too evident by the hypocritical "blah, blah" and double dealing in a region that has already seen genocide in Rwanda and Burundi and six million dead in the Congo. The Chinese are fulfilling their end of the $9 billion deal with the Kabila government and building roads, schools and hospitals, while in Gomo the people await in fear, abandoned by the world, the entry of "Uncle Sam's" man in Africa.
