More Great British Hypocrisy

It would appear that the US backed thug, General Nkunda, who is up in North Kivu, surrounding Gomo,(1) is living up to expectations with reports of massacres coming out of the area; the 'Guardian' reports, "Human Rights Watch - which provided testimony of the massacre of 150 civilians in the North Kivu town of Kiwanja last month - urged the EU to take action."(2) The 150 are, no doubt, the tip of the iceberg and a timely European armed intervention in the area might prevent an impeding humanitarian disaster. Of course, Britain is not about to take part in any such mission, with Milliband adament that the EU should not get involved.(3) In the meantime we have Milliband's boss, Gordon Brown delivering a speech to mark the 60th anniversary of the UN's universal declaration of human rights and calling for a prompt international response to help the people in eastern Congo. Addressing the people who, without that response, are about to be slaughtered, Brown said, "women and girls of Kivu the world will not abandon you. We must not, and will not, turn our backs and walk away."(4) The hypocrisy and cynicism here is disgusting. Of course, the CIA backed Nkunda doesn't want the Europeans in there, "Uncle Sam" has said his piece, and the women and girls of Kivu have already been abandoned. Brown knows this, Milliband knows this and anyone who knows anything about the area knows this but why, oh why, do these hypocrites perservere with their disgusting little charades?

Hello,
I fully agree with you on the situation in North Kivu. Days go by and nothing happens. Thanks for talking about the situation here.
Best regards,

an humanitarian worker in Goma, DRC
