What an insipid, useless organisation the United Nations has become and in today's 'Guardian' we can read that it has called on Obama to investigate human rights abuses in the wake of the latest Wikileaks revelations that there were clear violations of the UN Convention Against Torture in Iraq.
The leaks are to be appreciated as they make public a body of evidence which supports what we all more or less knew anyway. However, for the UN to ask Obama to investigate human rights abuses is ... well, it is a bit like asking a particular mafioso down in Corleone, at the height of the Mafia's power there, to investigate the family's crimes, while that very same mafioso is carrying out a couple of hits of his own. What a ridiculous farce!
