Neoconservatives versus Big Oil

In his book, 'Israel and the Clash of Civilisations', Jonathan Cook is quick to pick up on the policy battle between the State Department and its allies in Big Oil on on the one side and the neocons in the Pentagon on the other.(1) If the removal of the Zionists John Bolton to the United Nations and Paul Wolfowitz to head the World Bank(2) and the return of the "big four" to Iraq(3) didn't provide enough evidence to show that the neocons and the Israel lobby haven't been getting it all their own way, then the hydrocarbons law, which is still to be ratified by the Iraqi parliament, does more than just suggest that it is the Big Oil lobby and its Saudi friends that are perservering. It is not the place here to look at that law in detail. Nevertheless, while it does mean privatisation of Iraqi oil, it is not that type of privatisation that would lead to the markets being flooded by cheap oil to the detriment of OPEC and, of course, to the detriment of Saudi Arabia. What it does mean is that Big Oil will oversee the privatisation and continue to exert control on oil prices, while raking off large profits for their friends. This in fact means robbing the Iraqi people for the next forty years although it also means that the neoconservative attempt to smash the Saudi dominated cartel has, for the time being, failed and the "Jewish democracy" will have to live with Washington's other chums, the "moderate" Wahhabis, for a wee while longer, while concentrating all their covert, subversive and illegal activities on Teheran. It surely is time for the real international community to stand up and stop this nonsense.
