Now, a second blink is needed here to note that the "car was hit" refers to the "throwing stones". No discourse analysis is required with 'Haaretz' on the other hand, no effort to spot any anaphoric reference, and we are informed; "Settlers opened fire and killed a Palestinian teenager who was throwing rocks at Israeli cars near the West Bank city of Ramallah late Thursday, according to Palestinian sources."Ah, are we getting closer to the truth here and could it be that four boys were throwing stones and some settlers opened fire?
